Rohtang Pass - Indo Tibetan Border

The Rohtang Pass is a high mountain pass (13,000 ft above sea level) situated on the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas. This is a 51 kilometer drive from Manali.

On the way to Rohtang, there is mini Rohtang which is a tourist attraction point. One can see several shops and food stalls here. Most tourists do not venture above this point as the drive to actual Rohtang pass is difficult and dangerous.
As we were unaware of the dangers, we ventured forth. The climb was difficult and our diesel car was on the verge of giving up. The temperature decreases as one goes to a higher altitude and we found it to be extremely low at the top. So much so that it became difficult to breathe. The visibility is quite low. We could see some military people there.
Hardly any shops were present at the top - we could spot just one small tea stall. Very less number of toursists actually visist this point so it is considerably less crowded. The frozen snow looks beautiful and if you get lucky you could witness a snowfall (we did!).
The pass is open from May to October.
